In situ hybridization mapping and restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis of the porcine albumin (ALB) and transferrin (TF) genes

Abstract: In situ hybridization analyses were conducted on porcine metaphase chromosomes using porcine liver albumin (ALB) and transferrin (TF) cDNA probes. The ALB gene was assigned to the q12 band of chromosome 8 and the TF gene to the q31 band of chromosome 13. For the latter, a statistically significant secondary peak was observed on the 6p15 band. However, the TF probe predominantly hybridized to the 13q31 band, indicating that this band is the most likely site of the TF gene. Since the TF gene belongs to linkage g… Show more

“…No significant evidence for linkage was obtained between the six markers on chromosome 4 and the 76 other markers scored in this pedigree except that the lod score value for GBA and the microsatellite SO082 just reached statistical significance (Z = 3.0 at 6 = 0.35). This result is in conflict with the assignment of GBA to chromosome 4 since SO082 belongs to a linkage group on chromosome 1 (Ellegren et al 1993). However, the linkage data for GBA and SO082 were considered as a false significance since (1) SO082 did not show a significant lod score to any of the markers flanking GBA on chromosome 4 and (2) the assignment of GBA to chromosome 4 was supported by a far higher lod score (2 =…”

“…(1992a) recently reported weak evidence (lod score of 3.2) for loose linkage between the K88 loci and EAL, suggesting that the unassigned linkage group U12 is located on chromosome 13. Since the assignment of EAL to chromo-some 13 is questionable, the EAL, s0097, SLB linkage group is reported here as unassigned.…”
