Pacing System Analyzers: Different Systems—Different Results

Abstract: When a pacemaker is implanted, several electrophysiological parameters are measured using pacing system analyzers (PSA). Different PSAs may use different filter settings and measuring techniques when compared to the implanted pacemaker. In order to determine if there were significant differences in measurements obtained with different PSAs, we obtained measurements in a group of 99 patients with three different PSAs and a manual method. The results show that with each of the three different PSAs tested, differ… Show more

“…While impedance values measured with the Impedance Tone Box were lower than impedance values measured with the PSA 2090 and PSA 5311, all three methods correlate well with each other, as observed in previous studies comparing PSAs. 13 Regardless of measurement method employed, continuous monitoring of impedance values can indicate degree of fixation during pacing lead implantation.…”

“…Numerous methods, including pacing system analyzers (PSAs) and specially designed circuitry, have been employed clinically to measure pacing impedances 8–10 . However, the resulting impedance values may vary substantially depending on the system and methods employed 11–13 . On the other hand, whether or not such device non‐uniformities diminish the clinical relevance of the measured electrical pacing parameters is unknown.…”

“…It is known that the pacing level is dependent on different wave shapes, pulse energy level, pulse raise time, duration and amplitude. [ 8 9 ] Subsequent to the analysis of the pacemaker set, specific to each patient, the operation mode of the set and the lead configuration (location including on the septum or apex) were investigated. In this study, Demand pacemaker from Medtronic and S T Jude were used for implantation on patients.…”
