Bacterial Community Composition of Biological Degreasing Systems and Health Risk Assessment for Workers

Abstract: Biological degreasing system is a new technology based on the degradation capabilities of microorganisms to remove oil, grease, or lubricants from metal parts. No data is available about the potential biological health hazards in such system. Thus, a health risk assessment linked to the bacterial populations present in this new degreasing technology is, therefore, necessary for workers. We performed both cultural and molecular approaches in several biological degreasing systems for various industrial contexts … Show more

“…ciceri . They were detected in 8 different environments, most of them being technological and polluted environments, such as metal degreasing systems [21], aerosols and fluids in metalworking industry [22], biofouling biofilms, petroleum reservoir, polychlorinated bephenyl (PCB) polluted soil and polyacrylamide (PAM)-degrading consortium. Some clones were detected in velvetleaves seed and only one clone was found in the human skin microbiota (GQ115798) [23].…”

“…In this system of a plant-bacterium partnership, inoculated bacteria promote plant growth by both detoxification of the environment and the ACC deaminase activity, receiving in turn habitat and nutrients [157]. P. agglomerans is also an important member of the microbiota found in most biological degreasing systems used for degradation and removal of oil, grease, or lubricants from the metal parts of machines or installations, as an environment-friendly alternative to hazardous chemical solvents [159].…”

“…condoms [6-11]. Another socio-cultural factor could indirectly be the predominant matrifocal household, where males are only temporarily present and relationship building between young couples is rare [12-14]. Previous research has shown associations between economic factors and no use or ineffective use of contraceptives.…”
