Band-gap engineering of porous BiVO4 nanoshuttles by Fe and Mo co-doping for efficient photocatalytic water oxidation

Abstract: We demonstrate the first synthesis of uniform Fe and Mo co-doped BiVO4 (Fe/Mo-BVO) porous nanoshuttles (PNSs) through a simple solvothermal method combined with a subsequent impregnation thermal treatment.

“…These results showed the slight shi of Bi 4f and V 2p for the 0.2Co-BVO sample as compared with the BVO sample, implying the interaction of Co 2+ with Bi 3+ and V 5+ ions. Moreover, considering to the ion radius of Co 2+ , V 5+ , and Bi 3+ , the ion radius of Co 2+ (0.79Å) 32 was smaller than that of the Bi 3+ (1.03 A) 30 but larger than that of V 5+ (0.36Å); 29,39 thus, doping with Co 2+ tended to replace some Bi 3+ in the internal lattice structure of BiVO 4 . This outcome was also supported by Bo Zhang et al when using periodic density functional calculations within the GGA + U approach for calculating the formation energy.…”

“…[42][43][44][45] The photocatalytic activity and, therefore, quantum efficiency of MgZnO@SiO 2 -tetrazine was almost consistent with the Taugh plots. 46,47 Thus, it can be envisaged that the photocatalytic activity is closely related to the optical absorption. As the optical absorption is increased, the photocatalytic activity was also enhanced.…”

“…All BiVO 4 samples show a major peak at ∼550 nm, indicating that Pd/PdO‐decorated m‐s BiVO 4 samples can absorb solar energy in the visible light region. The optical band gaps of all catalysts could be evaluated from the Tauc equation (Figure B) ,. The E g values of the samples were slightly decreased from 2.312 to 2.203 eV as the weight ratio percentage of Pd/BiVO 4 increases from 0 to 3% (Table 3).…”
