“…Therefore, it would be highly recommended to include a detailed nutritional assessment in further studies addressing human milk composition. On the other hand, certain foods or supplements, such as fish oil (17), black currant seed oil (80), or probiotic bacteria, more commonly used in certain population groups (79, 8991), might modify the immunological composition of human milk. In our study, declaration of consumption of probiotic supplements and/or fermented foods by the participants significantly varied among locations, with the highest consumption rates (30%) in VHHD countries.…”

Also, while there was a later publication from a study published in 2010 (31) , data were extracted from the 2010 report since the follow-up paper (30) only reported pre-clinical outcomes. Furthermore, the register-based outcomes in the study by Hansen 2016 were considered in this review.…”

“…Blackcurrant production in Poland is approximately 200,000 tons/year (Polish Central Statistical Office (2014), and seeds constitute 15% to 30% of the weight (Hilz et al 2005). Blackcurrant seeds are subjected to supercritical CO2 extraction for the production of oils used in pharmaceutical or cosmetic industries (Danaher et al 2011;Costa et al 2013;Linnamaa et al 2013). Extracted oils have anti-oxidative properties and therefore could be used as functional foods or food supplements.…”

“…One of the methods of management of these residues is use as a fertilizer biocomponent. Blackcurrant seeds contain a large number of lignans and cutin polymers with hydroxyl and epoxy groups (Hilz et al 2005;Linnamaa et al 2013). They are also the source of all essential amino acids and good grade quality proteins.…”
