Blepharoplasty Combined With Mini-incision and Interrupted Buried Suture Techniques

Abstract: Background: Blepharoplasty has become one of the most popular plastic surgery techniques for generating double-eyelid folds. The mini-incision blepharoplasty technique results in minimal trauma and the formation of supratarsal folds. Methods: In this study, the authors combined mini-incisions with interrupted buried sutures. To perform the blepharoplasty procedure, the authors marked the supratarsal folds and divided them into 5 line segments: 3 cutting lines and 2 noncutting lines. For the cutting lines, the … Show more

“…Traditional blepharoplasty is performed by suturing the skin to the tarsus. In the classic double-eyelid method proposed by Sayoc in 1954, the orbicularis oculi muscle in front of the tarsus is removed, and the skin is sutured to the tarsal plate to create a firm scar adhesion to form a stable double eyelid 11 . Although the direct suturing of the tarsus and skin in this method can form the double eyelid in a stable manner, the created folds are usually static and unnatural because the tarsus is a dense connective tissue without sliding characteristics.…”

“…The methods had changed from suture technique to mini-incision technique and full-incision technique to create a natural-looking and steady eyelid fold. 1,2 Although the vast majority of people obtained beautiful double eyelid folds after surgery, some patients appeared unsatisfactory and unacceptable complications. Unfortunately, the number of such cases is increasing rapidly year by year.…”

“…There has been great progress in the field of double eyelid surgery since Mikamo first reported his suture method to create a lid crease in 1896. The methods had changed from suture technique to mini-incision technique and full-incision technique to create a natural-looking and steady eyelid fold 1,2. Although the vast majority of people obtained beautiful double eyelid folds after surgery, some patients appeared unsatisfactory and unacceptable complications.…”
