“…Current medical literature gives some information on the increase of the haematocrit values and reticulocytes (3,4,5,8,9,10,11,13,16,17,18,19,23,25,26,27); of plasma iron turnover (24), urobilinogen (18) and the erythroid-myclocytic ratio (6,7,14,15,19,20,21,22,28); but the bone marrow regulating processes taking part in the stimu lation of erythropoiesis are unknown. We still do not know, whether this increase of the red cell mass is due to acceleration of the mitotic activity of erythroblasts (12) or of their maturation or if it is due to a stimulated haemopoietic differentiation of histioid cells or lastly to an accelerated release of red cells into the blood stream.…”
