Cachexia and anorexia in cancer; a systematic review

Abstract: The treatment strategy for cancer cachexia is based on the cachexia stage of the cancer and its phenotypes, therefore interventions and expected outcomes vary. In order for the patient to get the most out of the treatment, it should be done based on the mechanism of intervention and the quality of life of patients should be addressed, including aspects of rehabilitation and reduction of the patient’s suffering using a multidisciplinary team. Given the importance of the subject, the present study aims to invest… Show more

“…Within the tumor microenvironment, signaling occurs between tumor cells and a variety of other cell types. The development of pro-angiogenic growth factors by tumor cells, which influence the existing vessels, is required to induce this mechanism [53][54][55].…”

“…Furthermore, in Stoff Khalili et al research, hMSCs were utilized as intermediate vehicles for conditional replication oncolytic adenoviruses (CRAds) to target breast cancer and reduced the development of pulmonary metastasis, most likely due to viral replication in the hMSCs [ 90 ]. Pulmonary metastasis in patients with breast cancer is common characteristic [ 171 , 172 , 173 ] and is associated with lethal complications in these patients [ 174 , 175 ]. Furthermore, when CRAd-loaded MSC was given intravenously to mice with solid ovarian cancer, it had a considerably stronger anticancer impact and a prolonged survival time than CRAd delivered directly [ 89 ].…”

“…By increasing the expression of TNF-related apoptosis inducing ligand (TRAIL) and TRAIL receptors, such as DR4 and DR5 on the surface of cancer cells, chemotherapy drugs increase Caspase8; subsequently, it induces apoptosis. Therefore, it can play a positive role in the process of treatment with chemotherapy drugs [ 29 31 ].…”
