Case Study: Thermal Enhance Bohai Offshore Heavy Oil Recovery by Co-stimulation of Steam and Gases

Abstract: Although there is abundant heavy oil resource in Bohai oilfield, only limited oil production is obtained by non-thermal production technologies such as ESP in past. The practical challenging of thermal production technologies, for instance, CCS and SAGD is the difficulty to install the large conventional steam generator onto offshore production platform. In order to recover offshore heavy oil in Bohai Oilfield, the largest offshore oilfield in China, at large oil production rate in the limited p… Show more

“…At the same time, larger gravity difference between N 2 and oil is obtained compared to CO 2 , the maximum gravity difference is about 0.2 MPa, while 200-300 ℃ N 2 is injected into heavy oil reservoir with pressure 5 MPa. Therefore, the gravity difference between heavy oil and gas will improve gravity drainage, especially for the depleted heavy oil reservoir (Zhong et al 2013;Sun et al 2013).…”

“…Its main components are N 2 , CO 2 , and steam. Compared to traditional steam, multithermal fluids are a mixture of multiple gases with higher latent heat and superheated steam [39,40]. In recent years, some scholars have measured the PVT physical properties of flue gas dissolved in heavy oil under different temperatures and pressures using laboratory experiments.…”

“…The future focus of the world's oil production will gradually shift from onshore to offshore (Lea et al 2011;Shariatinia et al 2013;Terdre 2011;Denney 2012). The main producing areas of Chinese offshore oilfield have transited from northern oil fields of South China Sea in last century to Bohai oilfield nowadays (Guo et al 2010;Zhou 2007;Sun et al 2013). Currently, proved oil reserves with viscosity above 350 mPa s in Bohai Bay region are over 7.41 9 10 8 t and un-producing proved reserves reach up to 6.5 9 10 8 t, which accounts for 87.3% of the total (Li et al 2016).…”
