Changes in Peripheral Lymphocyte Subsets in the Type 1 Diabetic Dogs Treated with Insulin Injections

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Plasma metabolites and peripheral lymphocyte subsets were measured in ten diabetic and ten control dogs to investigate their significances as indicators to evaluate immune states in the diabetic dogs. Diabetic dogs were treated with insulin injections, however their plasma glucose and fructosamine concentrations were significantly higher than those of the controls. There were no significant differences in counts of total white blood cells (WBC) and lymphocyte CD8 + cells (cytotoxic T cells) between t… Show more

“…Interestingly, the plasma IRI levels also significantly increased (approximately doubling). Explanation for the increase in IRI is that the IRI analysis method used in our study may cross-react with the insulin preparation used for administration [35]. As such, higher IRI values were observed after undergoing intensive glycemic control treatment.…”

“…Our rats led to an insulin deWcient state by STZ administration presented an opposite behavior than that observed in insulin-treated type 1 diabetes patients. This might be a result of the insulin deWcient state, as this hormone is a crucial growth factor and function limiting specially for lymphocytes (Mori et al 2008).…”
