Characterization of nebulized buparvaquone nanosuspensions—effect of nebulization technology

Abstract: The poorly soluble drug buparvaquone is proposed as an alternative treatment of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) lung infections. Physically stable nanosuspensions were formulated in order to deliver the drug at the site of infection using nebulization. The aerosolization characteristics of two buparvaquone nanosuspensions were determined with commercial jet and ultrasonic nebulizer devices. Aerosol droplet size distribution was determined with laser diffractometry (LD). Nebulization of the nanosuspensions… Show more

“…Basically, such nanomedicines consist of DNCs dispersed in liquid medium, and are stabilized by surface-active agents, such as the poloxamer family, [169][170][171][172][173] Tween, [174][175][176] and polymers. [177][178][179][180] For oral administration, the high surface:volume ratios of DNCs significantly increase dissolution velocity, thereby leading to an improvement in the gastrointestinal tract absorption based on the Noyes-Whitney equation.…”

“…All the aerosol droplets contain drug nanoparticles due to the presence of small particles. There are various drugs which are successfully tried with pulmonary route such as budesonide, p53 gene, ibuprofen, nifesipine, and ketotifen etc 58 .Coenzyme Q10 is an antioxidant substance which is indicated as a dietary supplement and proposed as adjuvant in the management of cardiovascular disorders and tumor for its protective and immunostimulating activities. CoQ10 nanosuspension designed and administreted to the lungs by nebulization.…”

“…For pulmonary delivery, aerosolization of nanosuspensions is possible. 117 An overview of current market products based on nanosuspensions technologies has been reviewed by Shegokar and Müller 118 and presented in Table 2. In this article, mainly the transformation of liquid nanosuspensions into solid dosage forms will be discussed.…”
