Characterization of poly (vinyl alcohol)/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) poly(styrenesulfonate) polymer blend: structure, optical absorption, electrical and dielectric properties

Abstract: Polymer blends of poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and PEDOT:PSS (poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) poly(styrenesulfonate)), were prepared by casting from aqueous solution. They were characterized by x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetery, thermo gravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared, ac spectroscopy and optical UV–visible absorption techniques. The thermal analysis did not illustrate significant variations of PVA when blended with different concentrations of PE… Show more

“…For PEDOT:PSS/ PVA, except for above bands, the absorption peak also appears at 1092 cm -1 . The absorption peaks located at 2924 and 2853 cm -1 are assigned to the asymmetric stretching of CH 2 from PSS backbone; the peaks located at 1516, 1384, 1054 and 983 cm -1 are attributed to the stretching vibration of the thiophene ring, the C-C/C=C of the quinoidal structure, the C-O-C bond and the C-S bond from PEDOT and the peak located at 1092 cm -1 is ascribed to the C-O stretching vibration of the hydroxyl group in PVA [20,31,32]. All these typical absorption peaks indicate the successful coating of PEDOT:PSS/PVA on the nano-Sn particles.…”

“…Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a semi-crystalline polymer, nontoxic, biocompatible and noncarcinogenic. Its hydrophilicity is an advantage for its applications in the formation of composite films [21]. PVA possesses good dimensional stability and photo-stable upon UV-visible light irradiation.…”

“…32 The occurrence of bands at 2870 cm À1 and 2950 cm À1 account for alkyl C-H stretching vibrations. 33 The bands at 1640 cm À1 and 3430 cm À1 are attributed to the bending and stretching vibrations of the O-H group. 33 …”
