Characterization of swine testicular cell line as immature porcine Sertoli cell line

Abstract: Swine testicular (ST) cell line is isolated from swine fetal testes and has been widely used in biomedical research fields related to pig virus infection. However, the potential benefit and utilization of ST cells in boar reproductive studies has not been fully explored. As swine fetal testes mainly contain multiple types of cells such as Leydig cells, Sertoli cells, gonocytes, and peritubular myoid cells, it is necessary to clarify the cell type of ST cell line. In this study, we identified ST cell line was a… Show more

“…The ST cell line (ATCC, No.CRL‐1746 T™ ) was identified as a collection of immature Sertoli cells and was used to research Sertoli cell functions in previous studies (Ma, Song, Guan, et al, ; Ma, Song, Yu, et al, ). In addition, we measured the marker genes of Sertoli cell ( Sox9 , Amh , Wt1 ) in ST cells using RT‐PCR assay.…”

“…ST cells were identified as a collection of immature porcine Sertoli cells in our previous report15. The number of immature Sertoli cells is important for spermatogenesis because mature Sertoli cells have no proliferative capacity and their final number depends on immature Sertoli cells16.…”

“…The swine testicular (ST) cell line (ATCC ® CRL-1746™) was isolated from swine foetal testes of 80 to 90 day pigs and was identified as a collection of immature porcine Sertoli cells in our previous report15. ST cells were cultured in high-glucose Dulbecco’s modified Eagle’s medium (HyClone, Logan, Utah, USA) with 10% (v/v) foetal bovine serum (Gibco, Grand Island, NY, USA) at 5% CO2 and 37 °C.…”

“…Swine testicular (ST) cells were purchased from BOSTER (ATCC ® CRL‐2528 ™ , Wuhan, China). ST cells were identified as porcine immature Sertoli cells and used in researches related to Sertoli cell function and maturation (Ma, Song, Guan, et al., ; Ma, Song, Yu, et al., ). Cells were cultured in high‐glucose Dulbecco’s modified Eagle’s medium (Hyclone, USA) with 10% foetal bovine serum (Gibco, Grand Island, NY, USA) at 37°C with 5% CO 2 .…”
