Songs as learning media provide an aesthetic experience for students and can also teach character. Academics in many countries pay little attention to this issue because songs are mostly used to memorize foreign language vocabulary. This study investigates teachers’ perceptions of using songs to build students’ character. This study focuses on exploring teachers’ perceptions of the development of religious character as a core character in the curriculum in Indonesia through songs. The case study design was employed by involving 45 elementary school teachers spread over several districts in West Java province. This research was carried out in several stages; First, by preparing questionnaires distributed online; Second, by following up the answers to the questionnaire by conducting in-depth interviews; Third, by analyzing the data in an inductive-thematic manner in relation to learning problems, psychological and social issues arose. The research resulted in themes related to teachers’ perceptions of developing students’ religious character through religious songs. Four themes were explored in-depth related to teacher appreciation for songs, the benefits of religious songs, teacher challenges, and instructional design. It can be drawn that the song function was not only limited to developing a cognitive domain that functioned to remember and collect facts and data but could also be a means of developing students’ characters, especially religious characters. From the teacher’s perspective, religious songs were able to develop students’ religiosity dimension, including students’ beliefs, worship, appreciation, knowledge, and morals. Hence, this study contributes to the importance of developing songs related to religious themes to develop national character.

The learning strategy Project based Learning is one part of the Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS). Both Project based Learning and Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) have a goal in developing ways of thinking, analyzing, and creating something creative. This stage is expected to exist at the student level development. The database used as a reference is taken from studies that identify the application of Project based Learning in several examples of activities. The journals reviewed relate to the vocational education environment and the purpose of its application to support the knowledge and skills of students or students. In addition, the choice of learning strategy is also based on the vocational education system for Automotive Technology Vocational Education Department, Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta. Students are expected to be able to identify and investigate in depth the needs of Transmission learning media as a group project. Lecturers stimulate by giving important questions related to real analysis for the manufacture of learning media. Questions asked by lecturers must also be open, provoking, and triggering for students to apply Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The research used is a literature study with analysis of various cases regarding learning strategies and their application. At the end of the research, students can create and create a learning media product in the transmission course.

The COVID-19 pandemic altered how education was formerly conducted, with a rapid shift from face-to-face to online learning. This situation resulted in a significant lack of student-teacher interaction, which affected particularly lower grade students. However, the pandemic provided an opportunity to develop a more sustainable way of learning due to the increasing use of technologies. This research seeks to improve children’s online learning experience through application design in response to online learning conditions. To identify the problem, initial interviews with parents, guardians, and teachers were conducted. Afterward, individual in-depth interviews with primary school teachers were carried out to gain insights on the needs of both students and teachers during online learning. The final app design incorporates gamification elements for both target users. Students follow lessons through interactive narratives based on the standardized curriculum. Teachers can adjust lessons more independently and conveniently using the gamified customization features, such as customizing texts, characters, and media. The effectiveness of the app design was then determined through direct observations with target audiences. The findings show that the application design has the potential to revolutionize and promote sustainability in Indonesian primary school education.
