Chiral resolution of differently substituted racemic acetyl-1-phenyl ethanol using lipase from Bacillus subtilis

Abstract: In the present investigation a Lipase producing strain, Bacillus subtilis (MTCC-121) was grown on various media containing different sources of carbon, nitrogen and other nutrients. The best media found for the production of lipase was M2 media containing 0.4% peptone, 0.2% beef extract and 1% NaCl. Lipase produced from this culture was used for the kinetic resolution of racemic acetyl-1-phenyl ethanol and its derivatives, which are important as chiral auxiliaries and intermediates in the synthesis of natural … Show more

“…Transesterification using lipases from Pseudomonas allows for insecticides, fungicides and herbicides such as (S)-indanofan to be obtained, this is used to control wild grass and weeds [46]. Moreover, optically active forms of pesticides were synthesized using lipases from Bacillus subtilis for the resolution of racemic mixtures of carboxylic esters or alcohol [47]. Biodiesel is defined as mono-alkyl esters of long-chain fatty acids, which are usually methyl esters of fatty acids and are commonly denoted as fatty acid methyl esters (FAME), which are used as an alternative fuel that is non-toxic, non-inflammable, biodegradable and renewable.…”

“…Particularly, one of the herbicides ( S )‐indanofan, which is used against wild grass and weeds, was proven to be successful . Also, optically active forms of pesticides were synthesized by employing lipase for the resolution of racemic mixtures of alcohol or carboxylic esters as reported for lipases from B. subtilis . Nikkomycin‐B, a potent biologically active pesticide was prepared through lipase‐catalyzed stereospecific synthesis .…”
