Chitinophaga alhagiae sp. nov., isolated from rhizosphere soil of Alhagi sparsifolia

Abstract: A Gram-stain-negative, non-flagellated, rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain T22 T , was isolated from rhizosphere soil of Alhagi sparsifolia, collected from Xinjiang, China. Its major fatty acids (>5 %) were iso-C 15 : 0 , C 16 : 1 !5c, iso-C 17 : 0-3OH, summed feature 1 (C 13 : 0 3-OH/iso-C 15 : 1 H) and summed feature 3 (C 16 : 1 !6c/C 16 : 1 !7c). The predominant respiratory quinone was MK-7. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, two aminolipids and four unidentified lipids. The DNA G+C … Show more

“…Correspondingly, the two genome sequences showed N50 values of 511 191 and 656 932 bp with G+C contents of 45. 6 [26] and 70 % dDDH [25] suggested for species discrimination, implying that strain ysch24 T should represent a distinct genotypic species.…”

“…dsmz. de/ genus/ chitinophaga) including the recently described Chitinophaga lutea [3], Chitinophaga deserti [4], Chitinophaga silvisoli [5], Chitinophaga alhagiae [6] and Chitinophaga flava [7]. Strains of the genus Chitinophaga are characterized by Gram-stain-negative, filamentous or rod-shaped cells, hydrolysing chitin or cellobiose and having iso-C 15 : 0 , C 16 : 1 ω5c and iso-C 17 : 0 3-OH as major fatty acids and menaquinone 7 (MK-7) as the major respiratory quinone [2].…”

“…The genus Chitinophaga was first described in the 1980s and is characterized as a gram-negative bacteria, positive oxidase and non-pathogenic and mesophilic characteristics [16], with a filamentous morphology that transforms when aging into spherical bodies (mixospores), without the production of a fruiting body [17]. The genus stands out for participating actively in soils [18][19][20], specifically in the rhizosphere [21], arsenic-contaminated soil [22] and vermicompost [23], where the biomass of plants and fungi is intensely degraded. This degradation is extremely significant for carbon recycling in the natural environment [24].…”

“…Members of the genus were isolated from various sources, e.g. soil [2][3][4], activated sludge [5], plants [6][7][8] and humans [9]. Cells of Chitinophaga species were rod-shaped and Gramstain-negative [2].…”
