Chromatin regulation functions in plant abiotic stress responses

Abstract: Plants respond and adapt to drought, cold and high-salinity stress in order to survive. Molecular and genomic studies have revealed that many stress-inducible genes with various functions and signalling factors, such as transcription factors, protein kinases and protein phosphatases, are involved in the stress responses. Recent studies have revealed the coordination of the gene expression and chromatin regulation in response to the environmental stresses. Several histone modifications are dramatically altered … Show more

“…The high coincidence of H3K4me3 and H3K9ac marks (Fig. 2) has been noted previously (Kim et al, 2008(Kim et al, , 2010(Kim et al, , 2012Anzola et al, 2010;Roudier et al, 2011;Malapeira et al, 2012) and supports the validity of the H3K9ac data sets. Although the coincidence of these two modifications has been noted before, our observation that the extent of H3K9ac coverage per gene was about 60% of the H3K4me3 coverage level is unique.…”

“…There are many other examples of wRKY-MAP kinase interactions (Chi et al 2013). Other interacting partners of wRKY proteins include 14-3-3 proteins (Chang et al 2009), chromatin remodeling proteins such as Arabidopsis histone deacetylase 19 (Kim et al 2010), vQ proteins ), CC-NBR-LRR-type R proteins (Shen et al 2007), e3 ubiquitin ligases (Miao and Zentgraf 2010) and the chloroplast ⁄ plastid-localized ABA receptor, ABAR (Shang et al 2010). These interacting partners of wRKY TFs are providing increasing information as to the roles and mechanisms involved in wRKY TF action at the systems level.…”

“…Chromatin structure is regulated by several mechanisms, including histone and DNA modifications, chromatin remodelling, which uses ATP hydrolysis to alter histone-DNA contacts, and histone variants (JM. Kim et al, 2010;Pfluger & Wagner, 2007). Alterations in chromatin structure are known to impact stress tolerance (JM.…”
