Ciliophora

Denis H Lynn

Abstract: Ciliophora is the name for a phylum of protists commonly called the ciliates. Ciliates are the most complex of cells, having an elaborate cytoskeleton, cilia and two different kinds of nuclei. Free‐living ciliates can be found in almost any habitat that has water – in soils, hot springs and Antarctic sea ice. Symbiotic species live as commensals in sea urchins or as parasites of lobsters and fish. Ciliate life histories can have specialised forms for dispersal and for resisting desiccation. Their cell cortex i… Show more

“…76 The Arizona Guidelines provide a good starting point for discussions about appropriate parenting time schedules following relocation. As compared to other family cases, "a key distinguishing factor of relocation is the potential for the parent-child relationship with the non-relocating parent to be negatively affected.…”

“…This is one of the reasons that relocation disputes are regarded as one of the most difficult and contentious issues in custody and access disputes." 76 The Arizona Guidelines provide a good starting point for discussions about appropriate parenting time schedules following relocation. Many of the suggestions contained in the guidelines, such as four blocks of access distributed throughout the year and the utility of virtual visitation, are also present in the case law.…”

“…Taxonomic classifications of the dinoflagellate sequences used as references were verified in the AlgaeBase.org (Guiry and Guiry, 2015) and by literature searches, while ciliate taxonomic classification followed Lynn (2012). Using the v.1.1 of the database, taxonomy assignment was re-performed to generate the final OTU matrix (OTU reads per sample) with improved results (i.e., "Other Dinoflagellates" and "Other Ciliates" went down to 5-10%).…”

“…Ciliates are diverse and morphologically complex unicellular organisms found in almost every environment on Earth (Hausmann and Bradbury ; Lynn ). While many open questions remain, their phylogeny and large‐scale taxonomy have remained largely consistent since the advent of molecular phylogeny (Lynn , ), and is currently being refined by phylogenomic analyses (Gentekaki et al. , ; Lynn and Kolisko ; Lynn et al.…”
