“…Thus, despite the darkness, the snails had perhaps not modified their biological rhythm. Having said this, it has been shown-particularly for Helix aspersa in temperate climates-that the photoperiod has marked effects on seasonal activity, such as hibernation, and a lot less impact on circadian activity patterns (Bailey 1981;Bonnet et al 1990). The activity of these snails is indeed linked to a circadian rhythm, but the temperature and humidity factors can substantially modify the period and intensity of activity (Y. Lorvelec in Bonnet et al 1990).…”
