Circular RNAs: Novel biomarkers for cervical, ovarian and endometrial cancer (Review)

Abstract: Cervical, ovarian and endometrial cancer are the three most common types of malignant tumor and the leading causes of cancer-associated death in women. Tumor debulking surgery followed by platinum and paclitaxel chemotherapy is the current treatment regime of choice. However, as a result of late diagnosis and chemoresistance, the survival rates of patients with advanced gynecological cancers remains unsatisfactory. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are stable noncoding RNAs that are present in a wide variety of tissue … Show more

“…The modern methods are used to search for serum markers in cervical cancer by mean of perspective technologies such as magnetic bead-based weak cation-exchange chromatography fractionation combined with matrix-assisted laser desorption / ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry [100], the multiplex proximity extension assay is used [101]. A significant amount of modern research of cervical neoplasia is aimed at identifying genetic, epigenetic changes, revealing the possible role of long non-coding RNAs and circular RNAs in cervical carcinogenesis [102][103][104][105][106][107]. Modern tendencies in the problem of cervical neoplasia include research on immune factors and the vaginal microbiome [108][109][110].…”

“…In other words, hsa_circ_0039569 inhibits the expression of hsa-miR-542-3p/hsa-let-7c-5p, which may be a promising biomarker in EC ( Xu et al, 2018 ). According to reported research, RP11255H23.4 and HSPG2 are expressed in normal endometrial tissues, but not in EC tissues ( Shi et al, 2020a ). Moreover, the corresponding miRNA expression level is also elevated state in normal tissues, which indicates that circRNAs can competitively combine with related miRNAs to promote the progression of EC.…”
