Abstract: Summary:  Purpose: Several lines of evidence indicate that there exists a relation between ovarian hormones and epilepsy. Estrogens decrease seizure threshold and increase brain excitability, whereas progesterone has an inhibitory effect and reduces epileptiform activity.
