Classification of different types of metal from recyclable household waste for automatic waste separation system

Abstract: Nowadays, solid waste has become a major problem in Malaysia. However, most people in Malaysia are not aware and take this problem for granted. The rising number of population and massive development in recent years indirectly generated an enormous value of household waste, making the household waste the main generator for solid waste in Malaysia. It stated that only 5 percent of an average 30,000 tons of waste have been recycled in Malaysia. The purpose of the paper is to design a system to separate the metal… Show more

“…The adjustment method was to move the sensor on the rail to 3 different distances (explain in the previous section). The photo sensor in a given position will transmit data from the sensor via an analog to digital (A/D) converter to the input of the Arduino Mega2560 [23]. This device was operated by a switch.…”

“…Literature reports automatic SW separation approaches based on techniques such as dense separation [1], column flotation [6], image recognition [7], magnetic separation [8], Foucault streams [9], sensors [10], robotics, and artificial intelligence [11], [12]. Automatic separation techniques are also applied in different industries for recycling processes in solid waste deposits [13]. However, the implementation of this type of separation in the domestic context is not recurrent.…”

“…Waste is disposed of when the remaining waste has no value and is no longer used in any manufacturing process [6], [7]. The other study [8] uses an Arduino Mega to develop a system for automatically sorting recyclable metal household garbage into four categories: aluminium, non-metallic, copper, and steel. The research concentrated on metal resources since they are the most valuable since they are easily recoverable and have the highest monetary value in comparison to other recyclable materials.…”
