Cleidocranial Dysplasia Case Report: Remodeling of Teeth as Aesthetic Restorative Treatment

Abstract: Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD), is an autosomal dominant disorder with a prevalence of 1 in 1,000,000 individuals. It is generally characterized by orofacial manifestations, including enamel hypoplasia, retained primary teeth, and impacted permanent and supernumerary teeth. The successful treatment involving a timing intervention (orthodontic-maxillofacial surgeons-restorative) is already described. However, the restorative treatment might improve the aesthetic final result in dentistry management for patients … Show more

“…To favor the harmony of the smile, tooth remodeling can be done with composite resin. The direct adhesive restorative system provides excellent esthetic and functional results, as well as presenting lower cost and clinical time relative to that required for indirect treatments, making it a viable alternative for both patient and clinician [ 7 ]. In addition, the resins can be associated with previous dental bleaching to favor the color of the substrate [ 8 ].…”

“…The CCD can be present as a mutation in 60% of the cases, in a 10% it can be present as deletion, and in the remaining percentage of patients, no mutation of the gene has been found, which it is assumed that there is heterogenecity of loci, involving another genes 4 . The CCD is characterized by frontal and parietal prominence, brachycephaly, late closure of the cranial sutures, hypoplasia or clavicle aplasia (which it does not occur in all patients) and multiple dental anomalies 3,[5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12] . All these features tend to be vary, even among the members of the same family.…”
