Clinical and pathological factors associated with progression of diabetic nephropathy

Abstract: ABSTRACT:As an important complication of diabetic mellitus, diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is becoming a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Given the diminished quality of life and the economic cost, identification of the risk factors for DKD and initiation of in-time therapies are of great importance. The initiators of DKD include hyperglycemia and predisposing genes, while the promotors of DKD include hyperglycemia, albuminuria, hypertension, dyslipdemia, insulin resistance, anemia, long durati… Show more

“…In the early stage, diabetic nephropathy presents as microalbuminuria. Previous studies have reported an association between IR and an increased risk of developing progressive diabetic nephropathy among patients with diabetes [34,35]. The Northern Shanghai Study [20] also found that a higher TyG index was associated with a higher risk of microalbuminuria and chronic kidney disease in elderly Chinese community-dwelling individuals.…”

“…However, in DM patients, the risk of cardiovascular complications is equivalent to that of patients with CAD, and, thus, similar treatment methods should be adopted to improve the prognosis of cardiovascular diseases ( 11 , 12 ). DM is usually accompanied with hypertension, which is a key risk factor for cardiovascular complications in DM patients ( 13 , 14 ). Previous studies reported that approximately 20–60% of DM patients were also suffering hypertension, and 25–50% of hypertension patients were combined with DM, and patients with DM and hypertension were usually more susceptible to the cardiovascular diseases ( 15 , 16 ).…”
