Clinical and Radiographic Evaluation of Vital Pulpotomy in Primary Molar using Antioxidant Mix as a Novel Pulpotomy Medication versus Formcresol: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Abstract: Background: Formocresol (FC) reported high success rates when used in pulpotomy of primary molars , however many concerns have been raised regarding its mutagenicity, carcinogenicity, its local toxicity, Objectives: to assess the success rates of Antioxidant mix and FC, used as pulpotopmy agents in vital primary molars, both clinically and radiographically. Materials and Methods: Randomized clinical trial. Fifty-two (52) primary mandibular molars in thirtyfive (35) children ranging in age from four to eight ye… Show more

“…It is easier to identify radiographic pathology as well as radiographic healing more precisely in mandibular rather than maxillary molars due to overlapping of the permanent tooth germ and the palatal root of the primary molar on the interradicular bone. [17] A wide range of morphologic variations and frequency of non-typical morphology has been reported increasingly in mandibular primary second molars dictating the use of disinfectant irrigants and root canal fillings with high antibacterial efficacies to decrease failures arising from these inaccessible areas. [18] The degree of primary tooth root resorption was found to be the most critical preoperative predictor of pulpectomy success.…”

“…Children enrolled in this study should have at least one decayed mandibular and maxillary primary molar (split mouth technique ) with vital pulp (hot and cold) tasted involvement without any clinical or radiographic sign of preapical inflammation, degeneration, or pathosis. However, presence of any mobility with tongue pressure bite mechanism, sensitivity to percussion, pathologic root resorption, preapical pathosis or furcation involvement were considered as exclusion criteria (16,17) . Parents of all selected children were informed about the all needed information's about this clinical study before starting and then each child`s parent was signed a detailed informed consent.…”

“…The coronal pulp was amputated entirely with sharp spoon excavator. Then, the pulp chamber was rinsed with water and the hemorrhage was stopped with cotton pellets moistened with normal saline (16,17) .…”
