Clinical significance of HSP27 expression in colorectal cancer

Abstract: Abstract. The heat shock protein 27-kda (HSP27) has been found overexpressed in several types of human cancer and is associated with treatment resistance and poor prognosis. Recent proteomic studies demonstrate that HSP27 is significantly overexpressed in colorectal cancer (crc). However, the relationship between HSP27 expression and patient prognosis remains nascent. in the present study, we aimed to investigate the expression of HSP27 and its correlation with clinicopathological parameters in crc patients. d… Show more

“…On the one hand, this small heat-shock protein has been examined in CRC tumor cells themselves [ 34 36 ]. An increased expression of Hsp27 in tumor cells of primary CRC was described as negative prognosticator for survival [ 37 , 38 ]. On the other hand, Hsp27 expressing fibroblasts were examined in the context of wound healing and fibrosis.…”

“…Its functions can be triggered by different types of stress such as inflammation, oxidative stress, and malignant transformation (Ciocca and Calderwood, 2005). HspB1 is overexpressed in several types of malignancies (Huang et al , 2010; Yu et al , 2010) and has been correlated with poor prognosis (Yu et al , 2010). Moreover, it has been reported that upregulation of HspB1 is associated with tumour metastasis (Nagaraja et al , 2012).…”

“…Heat shock protein 27 expression reflects the malignant potentials and prognoses of tumors [21–23]. Heat shock protein 27 overexpression is associated with tumor infiltration in breast cancer, such that HSP27 antibody treatment can increase the survival rate of patients with breast cancer [12]. Therefore, further investigation into HSP27 expression in patients with tumors and the regulatory mechanism of HSP27 expression is of great clinical significance in the treatment of tumors.…”
