“…1). Mitoinhibitory effects of gamma radiation at higher doses has been reported earlier in Hordeum vulgare (Eroglu et al, 2007), Allium cepa (Ahirwar, 2015) and Triticum aestivum (Borzouei et al, 2010). Stickiness (Fig.…”

“…Although, colchicine has been normally utilized for genomic doubling in plants, studies unraveling its influence on meiosis are still lacking. Colchicine acts by binding to the tubulin dimers, preventing the formation of microtubules on the spindle fibers during cell division and, thus causing various meiotic irregularities including structural as well as numerical chromosomal alterations (Verma et al 1992, 1993, Ahirwar and Verma 2015. Detailed assessment on spectrum and frequency of chromosomal damage indicated that colchicine is a potent chemical mutagen in modifying the genomic architecture of T. durum.…”

“…Univalents may have been produced as a result of partial failure of chromosome pairing among homologous chromosomes at prometaphase-I, due to the phenomenon called desynapsis (Verma and Khah 2016). Colchicineinduced univalent chromosome behavior was also observed by Ahirwar and Verma (2015) in Allium cepa plants.…”

“…Previous works aimed at mitotic inception are in Chrysanthemum carinatum (Verma and Chandel 1994), Allium cepa L. (Ahirwar 2013) and Crotalaria juncea (Kumar and Dwivedi 2014). Singh and Datta (2010) have recently shown that low dose of gamma irradiation could be potentially exploited for improving plant vigor and grain productivity.…”
