Cold Plasma and Acid Treatment Modification Effects on Phonolite

Abstract: A sample of phonolite was treated by cold plasma and hydrochloric acid diluted in water to study the change of its structure and acid properties. The phonolite and treated samples were analysed by XRD, elemental analysis XRF, specific surface area BET, TPD-NH 3 and FT-IR spectroscopy. They were also tested in the adsorption of Ca, K, Mg, P and Na impurities present in waste cooking oil. Plasma treated sample presented almost the same structure with some surface differences respect to the original phonolite. Ho… Show more

“…Because the raw phonolite material had very poor textural properties, an acid treatment of this raw material was performed. An increase in the total porosity and number of weak acid sites on the surface of the solid was found [14,17] resulting in an increase in the pore volume and specific surface area. These changes in the support used to produce the new catalysts are described in previous publications [14,17].…”

“…An increase in the total porosity and number of weak acid sites on the surface of the solid was found [14,17] resulting in an increase in the pore volume and specific surface area. These changes in the support used to produce the new catalysts are described in previous publications [14,17]. The acid treatment led to the removing of mainly Al and Na with the consequent increase of the creation of new pores in the solid.…”

“…The XRD diagrams ( Figure 2 ) were similar for all solids (i.e., the signals had the same angle). However, only peaks related (XRD patterns) to minerals from the feldspar group were clearly found (sanidine ((PDF 19-1227), analcime (PDF 72-0445), and nepheline (PDF 70-1582) diagrams) [ 15 ].…”

“…This ore was taken from Northwest Czech Republic. The raw Ph material was treated with hydrochloric acid (NiW/Ph-HCl) and oxalic acid (NiW/Ph-Ox) using the same procedure described in the literature [ 15 ]. The Ph was supplied in sand form with a size of 0–2 mm by the company Keramost a. s. (Most, Czech Republic).…”
