Collaborative forecasting in networked manufacturing enterprises

Abstract: PurposeThis paper seeks to propose an overall model of collaborative forecasting for networked manufacturing enterprises.Design/methodology/approachContributions by several authors to collaborative forecasting have been analysed from different viewpoints. A collaborative‐forecasting model for networked manufacturing enterprises has been proposed and validated by means of a simulation study.FindingsThis model significantly reduces the inventory levels of the whole network and improves customer service.Research … Show more

“…There are many kinds of collaboration in manufacturing that have been implemented by companies for competitiveness. Collaboration discussed by researchers are collaboration in project planning and scheduling [17], [18], collaboration in product design and development [19]- [21], collaboration in forecasting [22], [23], collaboration in production systems [24], [25] and collaboration in the supply chain [26], [27]. However, the discussions are still in the context of segmented collaboration of the whole process of a holistic collaboration.…”

“…Despite the increasing importance of airfreight services in agile era, most studies that intended to determine the practical implication of demand forecasting over the operational performance of companies, are mainly focused on manufacturing organizations (Acar & Gardner Jr., 2012;Fildes & Kingsman, 2011;Poler et al, 2008;Stapleton et al, 2006), retailing (Lau, 2012) and the trading environment (Adebanjo, 2009). A notable exception is Wu (2011), who proposes a model to cope with the high air cargo demand uncertainty.…”
