“…acnes is commonly found on the skin, and its presence in blood cultures is often considered to result from contamination and is rarely proof of systemic infection. However, a retrospective review covering 905 P. acnes isolates reported 20 patients with evidence of a P. acnes infection, including seven cases of endocarditis, six of postcraniotomy infections, four of arthritis and spondylodiscitis, two of endophthalmitis, and one of pansinusitis [1]. The authors of this review noted a signi®cant association of P. acnes with postoperative infections at the site of surgery, with an interval of 2 weeks to 4 years after surgery.…”
