“…The direct quantitative measurement of microgram quantities of ethylenediamine, because of the simplicity of the molecule, is a singularly difficult task. The formation of a derivative (3)(4)(5) or condensation product which can be measured by gas chromatography, visible or ultraviolet spectrophotometry, or fluorometry to obtain the required sensitivity was investigated. Combes (2) made ethylenediamine react with acetylacetone and copper acetate and obtained a violet precipitate which could be partitioned into chloroform.…”
