“…Multiple studies have been carried out for testing the efficiency of alternatives for FM in L. calcarifer 32 , 35 37 . The choice of raw ingredient is often guided by the ease and cost of availing it in bulk locally, however, with respect to impact assessment, growth parameters should not be the sole criterion for its selection, physiological factors like metabolism, immunity and gut microbial composition should also be taken into account while optimizing the inclusion range of a certain FM substitute.…”

“…Among the plant ingredients used in aqua‐feed, soybean has been demonstrated as an excellent protein source due to its high protein digestibility, relative balance of amino acids, huge global production and reasonable market price (Metts et al, 2011; Wang et al, 2006). The potential of replacing fishmeal with soybean‐derived ingredients (soybean meal, soy protein concentrate and isolated soy protein) in diets for carnivorous fish species has been intensively evaluated (Biswas et al, 2019; Bonvini et al, 2017; Hossain et al, 2019; Ma et al, 2019; Meng et al, 2019; Novriadi et al, 2017; Yaghoubi et al, 2016; Yeşilayer & Kaymak, 2020; Zhang et al, 2016, 2018). And results from these studies suggested that fishmeal replacement level by soybean‐derived ingredients varies among different fish species.…”

“…The proximal compositions of the diet, fish body and muscle samples were determined based on previous study (Glencross et al, 2017;Ma et al, 2019). Moisture was determined by oven dry to a constant weight at 103 • C in an air-blowerdriven drying closet (Nocchi Instrument Co., Ltd., China).…”

“…Specific growth rate (SGR), Feed conversion ratio (FCR), Feed intake (FI), Protein efficiency ratio (PER), Condition factor (CF), Viscera ratio (VR), Hepatosomatic index (HIS) and Intraperitoneal fat ratio (IPF) were calculated by referring to the method of Fu and Ma (Fu et al, 2019;Ma et al, 2019).…”
