Complete Permittivity Tensor in Sputtered CuFe2O4 Thin Films at Photon Energies between 2 and 5 eV

Abstract: This work is devoted to the systematic study of the optical and magneto-optical properties of sputter deposited CuFe2O4 thin films in the photon energy region between 2 and 5 eV using spectroscopic ellipsometry and magneto-optical Kerr spectroscopy. The spectral dependence of both the diagonal and off-diagonal elements of the permittivity tensor is determined. A complete picture about the electron transitions in CuFe2O4 is suggested in the frame of intervalence charge transfer and intersublattice charge transf… Show more

“…The assigned optical and magneto‐optical transitions are related to either inter‐valence charge transfer (IVCT), inter‐sublattice charge transfer (ISCT) transitions, crystal field (CF) transitions, namely CF splitting of Co2+ orbitals, or from O2p band to electronically higher A or B ion bands. Similar electronic structure and electronic transitions have also been found in other transitions metal oxides such as NiFe2O4, CuFe2O4, Li0.5Fe2.4O4, MgFe2O4 . Optical investigations of CCO and ZCO have revealed a strong dependence of the electronic structure on the growth method and conditions in relation to the structural properties .…”

“…Fabrication procedures and parameters have important effects on MO properties since they determine the final stoichiometry of the materials [131] . Post-deposition treatments and annealing at proper temperatures and durations are used to obtain desired phases and improve crystallization for better MO properties [132], [133], [134], [135] .…”

“…It seems plausible to use the formalism to calculate the grating's parameters from observing the reflected light using the aforementioned methods (MOSS, ES); in this case, the inverse problem has to be solved. This has been done for both material and geometric parameters [7,13].…”
