Composition and Antimicrobial Activity of the Essential Oils ofTanacetum balsamitaL. subsp.balsamitaandT. chiliophyllum(Fisch. et Mey.) Schultz Bip. var.chiliophyllum(Asteraceae) from Turkey

Abstract: The chemical composition of the essential oils of dried aerial parts of Tanacetum balsamita subsp. balsamita and T. chiliophyllum var. chiliophyllum were analyzed by GC and GC-MS. Forty five and forty six components were identified representing 81.0 % and 84.4 % of the oils, respectively. Trans-chrysanthenol (22.3 %), chrysanthenyl acetate (19.7 %), linalool oxide (11.5 %), camphor (7.5 %), 1,8-cineole (2.7 %) were found to be major components in T. balsamita subsp. balsamita and camphor (28.5 %), 1,8-cineole … Show more

“…As can be seen from the table, camphor -bicyclic terpene ketone (25,29%) and borneol -monoterpene alcohol (21.84%) are the major components of the essential oil of P. balsamita. The results are in consistent with literature data, only difference in the percent [11,12]. The minor compounds are 1-Naphthalenol, 4-methoxy -(9,20%), 1,7,7-Trimethylbicyclo[2.2.1]hept-2-yl acetate (7,47%) and 4-Terpinenol (4,37 %).…”

“…Chrysanthenyl acetate was reported as the main component in the oil of Artemisia vulgaris L. collected from some localities in North Lithuania (Judžzentienè and Buzelytè 2006), Tanacetum balsamita subsp. balsamita (Asteraceae) from Turkey (Bagci et al 2008b), and Tanacetum parathenium (L.) from England and the Netherlands (Hendriks et al 1996; Christensen et al 1999). However, there are no data in the literature on the prevalence of chrysanthenyl acetate, 2L-4Ldihydroxy eicosane, verbenol, and dehydroaromadendrene in P. gnaphalodes essential oil.…”
