“…Calcium and iron are necessary to maintain an optimal bone development. Crab meat is an excellent source of minerals, particularly calcium, iron, zinc, potassium and phosphours (Sifa et al, 2000;Adeyeye, 2002;Gokoglu and Yerlikaya, 2003;Naczk et al, 2007).The phosphorous (adenosine polyphosphate) act as a key substance for energy release and present in phospholipids (Decker and Tuczek, 2000). Both minerals being required during childhood and growing stages to prevent rickets and osteomalacia.…”

“…The major n-3 and n-6 PUFA was linoleic (C18:2n-6) and linolenic acid (C18:3n-3) respectively. The n-3 fatty acids accounted for 5.21% of the total and 34.69% of all PUFA whereas n-6 acids were 9.81% and 65.31% of all PUFA both of which is lower than those reported for green crab C. mediterraneus and C. maenas [17,45]. The ratio of EPA to DHA was found to be 0.53 which is lower than those reported but higher than the recommended desire minimum and maximum dietary ratio of n-3/n-6 (0.1-0.2) by FAO/WHO [46], and higher ratio was considered more beneficial for human health [47,48,49].…”

“…EPA and DHA are important in infant brain growth (Wu et al, 2007) and have cardio-protective (Lee, O'Keefe, Lavie, Marchioli, & Harris, 2008;Ross, Lombardo, & Chicco, 2010) and anti-cancer (Alberts & Greenspan, 1984;Donaldson, 2004) properties. Balancing the nutritive material with risk is important.Crab meat is also an excellent source of minerals, particularly calcium, iron, zinc, potassium and phosphorus (Naczk, Williams, Brennan, Liyanapathirana, & Shahidi, 2004).…”
