Concomitant use of an infrared fractional laser with low-dose isotretinoin for the treatment of acne and acne scars

Abstract: Acne and acne scars can be treated more effectively by concomitant use of an infrared fractional laser with low-dose isotretinoin with reduced MTZ densities. Most patients showed more than a fair improvement, and there was no aggravation of the scars.

“…6 Recent clinical studies showed that invasive acne scar treatments and laser procedures in patients on oral isotretinoin bring no additional risks and that the drug does not delay wound healing. “…Post-varicella atrophic scars have been reported to occur in up to 18% of patients in various studies (Jezek, Hardjotanojo,, & Rangaraj, 1981). Yoon et al, observed that acne and acne scars can be treated more effectively by concomitant use of an infrared fractional laser with low-dose isotretinoin with no aggravation of the scars (Yoon et al, 2014). Oral isotretinoin has been proven to be highly effective in the treatment of all forms and grades of acne vulgaris, even in lower doses (Lee et al, 2011).…”

“…Recently, it has been shown that laser treatment performed during or within a few months of surgical procedures significantly improves the appearance and texture of surgical scars. [12][13][14][15][16][17] The authors' aim was to evaluate the safety of ablative CO 2 fractional laser treatment of the facial area in patients with atrophic acne scars who were undergoing or had recently completed isotretinoin therapy, and to examine subsequent healing. Although clinical complications can result from fractionated laser treatment, ablative skin resurfacing with a carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) fractional laser is among the procedures that yield satisfactory results.…”
