Consistent Efficacy of Wendan Decoction for the Treatment of Digestive Reflux Disorders

Abstract: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and bile reflux gastritis (BRG) are common gastrointestinal (GI) disorders with unmet medical needs. Traditional Chinese medicine has long been used for the treatment of GERD and BRG whereas the ginger-containing formula Wendan decoction (WDD) targets homeostatic disturbances characterized by "reflux" and "gut-juice exposure" problems. Here we used WDD as a therapeutic tool to unravel the common pathogenesis of GI reflux disorders. Control clinical trials reporting the WD… Show more

“…As a complementary and alternative medical treatment with fewer adverse effects and certain curative effects, the herbal formulae combined with fixed herbs are widely accepted and studied in China, Japan, South Korea, and other regions. In recent years, through the systematic review of reliable evidence, it has been found that classic TCM herbal formulae, such as Banxia Xiexin Decoction, Wendan Decoction, and others, can effectively improve GERD or some disorders of the gastrointestinal tract (Ling et al, 2015;Teschke et al, 2015;Tominaga and Arakawa, 2015;Dai et al, 2017;Xiao and Yang, 2018). Moreover, our team has collected 122 cases reported in the National Service Platform for Famous and Old Traditional Chinese Medicine (http://www.gjmlzy.com:83) and China National Knowledge Internet (http://www.cnki.net) via data mining based on using effect, flavor, meridian tropism, and syndrome differentiation to cluster analysis of tradition.…”

“…Currently, traditional Herbal Medicines (THM) are widely used in cardio-cerebrovascular, endocrine, gastrointestinal, neuropsychiatric, and respiratory disorders (Dai et al, 2018;Jiang et al, 2019;Kong et al, 2019;Qin et al, 2019;Gao et al, 2020;Liu et al, 2020;Zhang et al, 2020). Several studies have evaluated the efficacy and safety of THM in treating GERD (Ling et al, 2015;Dai et al, 2017;Shih et al, 2019). However, these findings were obtained from pairwise comparisons between a prescription and conventional Western medicine (s).…”
