Construction of Carbon Microspheres-Based Silane Melamine Phosphate Hybrids for Flame Retardant Poly(ethylene Terephthalate)

Abstract: To improve the flame retardancy and inhibit the smoke of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), carbon microspheres (CMSs)-based melamine phosphate (MP) hybrids (MP-CMSs) were constructed in situ with the introduction of CMSs into the hydrothermal reaction system of MP. The integrated MP-CMSs were modified by 3-Aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTS) to obtain the silane MP-CMSs (SiMP-CMSs) to strengthen the interface binding between the MP-CMSs and PET matrix. The results showed that the SiMP layer was loaded on the C… Show more

“…The chemical structure of annealed PbSe thin films is further investigated by FTIR, as shown in Figure . There are three significant absorption peaks at 548–820, 840–1200, and 1230–2000 cm –1 of the as-grown VPD-PbSe film, corresponding to the SeOSe bending vibration and PbSe and CO stretching vibrations, respectively. After sensitization, the SeOSe and PbSe vibration peaks significantly increase, and the wide peaks at 1900–2500 and 3000–4000 cm –1 corresponding to the PbI stretching vibration are detected, indicating the formation of PbI 2 , which is in agreement with the XRD result.…”

“…One of the most popular groups of flame retardants used for polyurethanes are nitrogen-based compounds and, among them, the most essential is melamine and its derivatives [81]. The high efficiency of melamine in reducing the flammability of polymer materials is attributed to the complex mode of action.…”

“…2 Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is an important thermoplastic polymer material 3 and one of the five primary engineering materials. 4,5 However, the widespread application of PET materials is limited by its inherent flammability and combustion process, showing a low oxygen index, high heat release rate (HRR), and limited carbon formation. 6,7 The most promising approach toward resolving the flammability issue is imparting the flame retardancy feature to PET materials.…”
