“…There are several published materials dealing with topics in MIP grammar, including Clements (2012), Cardoso (2012Cardoso ( , 2014cCardoso ( , 2019, and Krajinović (2015Krajinović ( , 2018. These works typically highlight the high level of convergence between Malayalam and MIP, most notably in the fact that MIP has an SOV order (Cardoso 2014a), deranked adverbial subordination (Krajinović 2017), postpositions expressing case (Cardoso 2014c), and vector verbs (Cardoso 2015;Krajinović 2018). This paper addresses two problems, namely that (a) the existential, locative, possessive, copulative, and zero-copula constructions differ in many ways from the structures available in the Portuguese lexifier, and (b) nominal and propertydenoting predicates exhibit a high degree of variability in the appearance of the copula.…”
