Contrasting Two Facies of Muncung Granite in Lingga Regency Using Major, Trace, and Rare Earth Element Geochemistry

Abstract: -Lingga Regency is located in the main range of the famous Southeast Asia granitic belt related to tin resources. There are two granitic units in this region: the S-type Muncung Granite and I-type Tanjungbuku Granite. XRF and ICP-MS were used to measure the major, trace, and rare earth elements of nine Muncung Granite samples. Two different patterns were identified from major data plotting on Harker variation diagram. Granitic rocks from Lingga and Selayar Islands are classified as A facies while others from S… Show more

“…These trends are alike other granitoid units in Eastern Granite Province of Peninsular Malaysia, i.e. Endau Rompin (Ghani et al, 2013), Karimun (Irzon, 2017), both groups of Muncung (Irzon, 2015), and Central Terengganu sector (Ahmad et al, 2002). Among trace elements, V, Ga, Sc, Sr, and Ba depict negative correlation to SiO 2 whilst only Rb with a positive one (Figure 6g-h).…”

“…The metamorphic complex occupies the most area of the island whilst the quartzite outcrops situated in the north. Two plutons are located in the Island: the S-type Triassic Muncung Granit which was divided into two facies geochemically on the northeast and the I-type Jurassic Tanjungbuku Granit at the southwest (Irzon 2015). The northern coast of Singkep is dominated by Quartenary Swamp Deposit whilst the Alluvium is located at both north and south shores the island.…”

“…Bukit Tumang is located in west Singkep on which huge batholith of S-type granite identified. The Muncung Granite in Singkep is megascopically light grey, holocrystalline, medium-grained, phaneritic and generally consists of quartz, K-feldspar and plagioclase (Irzon 2015). As located in Bukit Tumang, tin wastes of TRE 51 and TRE 59 were originated from primary minings.…”

“…Plagioklas berupa oligoklas, umumnya telah terubah [3]. Selain itu dari data hasil analisis petrografi yang dilakukan oleh peneliti lain terhadap tiga buah sampel granit Muncung yang diambil dari lokasi lain tapi masih di wilayah granit Muncung menunjukkan bahwa hasil ketiga-tiganya adalah granit, juga tidak ditemukan diorit [4].…”
