Controlled Photoperiodic Environments for Food Animals

Abstract: Recent studies suggest that control of daily light exposure regulates reproduction, stimulates body growth, and increases the efficiency of feed utilization and egg and milk yields in several domestic species used for food. Hormones mediate photoperiod-induced changes in these traits. Photoperiod manipulation is a promising method of increasing food production from domestic animals.
