“…The causes of vaccine breakdown can be explained by vaccine quality (mainly antigen content), immune suppression of the host, and/or antigenic variation of NDV (16,21,31). Out of the 54 ND cases for which information on vaccination was available, 90.7% had a history of vaccination, and 44.4% of ND cases were diagnosed from the flocks that had been vaccinated more than two times against NDV (data not shown).…”

“…Before sequencing, the antigen was extracted from the vaccines as described in ref. 15: Vaccine (2 ml) was mixed with 8 ml of isopropylmyristate (Sigma). The mixture was centrifuged at 1,000 ϫ g for 10 min, and the water phase was Chickens were challenged with 0.2 ml of diluted allantoic fluid containing 10 6 EID50 per ml (0.1͞ml intranasally and 0.1 ml intratracheally) of A͞Chicken͞Netherlands͞621557͞03.…”

“…It has been shown that low levels of humoral antibody may be related to disease susceptibility (Parmentier et al, 2004). Serum hemagglutination inhibition antibody is a valid indicator because it is directly effective against NDV in the humoral immunity of chickens (Maas et al, 2003). In the current study, the addition of enzymes to the diet increased antibody production against NDV in broiler from 14 to 42 days of age.…”
