Correlation of neutrophil lymphocyte ratio with HbA1c in patients of type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract: Background: Neutrophil lymphocyte is an indicator of subclinical inflammation. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is associated with chronic low-grade inflammation. One of the novel inflammatory markers is hemogram derived neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio. There are very few studies which are directly accessing the relation between NLR and HbA1c, so in the present study our aim to correlate neutrophil lymphocyte ratio with glycemic control in patients having type 2 diabetes. Methods: Hospital based observational cross sect… Show more

“…Citrus fruits and various green vegetables like broccoli and spinach are dietary sources of this vitamin. Patients with Diabatic neuropathy have been found to have lower vitamin C concentrations (Varma et al, 2014). Low plasma concentrations have been linked to elements such as the rise in oxidative stress, serum creatinine, albumin in urine, and the creatininealbumin interaction in urine.…”

“…7,8 Other studies showed that elevated NLR in otherwise healthy subjects may be indicative of underlying impaired glucose metabolism, and moreover, A cross sectional study to assess prediction of microalbuminuria using neutrophilto-lymphocyte ratio and red blood cell distribution width in diabetic patients NLR should be used as a marker of diabetic control level in addition to HbA1c in type 2 diabetic subjects. 9 Albuminuria is a symptom of nephropathy which usually initiating with microalbuminuria, which is also considered as marker of vascular endothelial damage. 10 Albuminuria is one of the important predictor of poor renal prognosis in patients with type 2 diabetes.…”
