CPW-Fed Multi-Band Omni-Directional Planar Microstrip Antenna Using Composite Metamaterial Resonators for Wireless Communications

Abstract: Abstract-A novel approach for the design of a compact multiband planar microstrip antenna is presented. This type of antenna is composed of composite metamaterial resonators (including conditional microstrip resonators and metamaterial resonators), and fed by signal feed. A sample antenna with composite closed-ring resonator and split-ring resonator (SRR) fed by 50 Ω coplanar waveguide (CPW) developed on FR4 epoxy substrate for multi-band wireless communication applications is presented. Appropriate design of … Show more

“…Proper design of the antenna, as one of the key components of the whole system, plays an important role to make the system efficient in terms of its performance, lightness and compactness. The multiband antennas are good candidates for using in modern wireless links which operate at several frequency bands [1][2][3][4]. Among multiband antennas the monopole structures have attracted a great deal of attention.…”

“…The microstrip antennas are good candidates for these applications due to their small size, easy installation and low cost. For WLAN applications and WiMAX systems, several design methods for omnidirectional antennas have been developed in [1][2][3][4][5]. The collinear dipole array (COA) is a well-known high-gain dipole antenna introduced in [6] based on Franklin idea.…”
