Cracking of Scrap Tires Pyrolysis Oil in a Fluidized Bed Reactor under Catalytic Cracking Unit Conditions. Effects of Operating Conditions

Abstract: Tire valorization by catalytic cracking of scrap tires pyrolysis oil has been investigated in a riser simulator reactor under fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit conditions using an equilibrated FCC catalyst. A parametric study has been done under testing conditions representative of an industrial unit. The extent of the reactions has been quantified by obtaining the yields of product lumps: dry gas, liquefied petroleum gases, naphtha, and light cycle oil. Moreover, a detailed composition of each lump has been… Show more

“…Rodrı́guez et al have studied the cracking of pure TPO obtained in a conical spouted bed reactor, , the cracking of TPO dissolved in VGO, and the nature and location of the coke formed in this process . Initially, these researchers studied the effect of operating conditions, that is, temperature, C/O ratio, and contact time.…”

Initially, these researchers studied the effect of operating conditions, that is, temperature, C/O ratio, and contact time. Accordingly, they used a riser simulator reactor and an equilibrated FCC catalyst in order to perform the testing at industrial conditions.…”

“…For large-scale stationary engines, a more reliable, but also more elaborate approach is currently used, in which oil samples are taken at regular intervals for off-line laboratory analysis to determine the optimal oil change interval [7,8]. The disadvantages of this method are high fixed costs and the delay between sample drawing and return of analysis results.…”

“…In the petroleum refining industry, fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) based on the fluidized bed technology is one of key processes in converting heavy oils into high-octane number gasoline and diesel. In China, the FCC process plays a more important role in heavy oil processing because of the lack of hydro-conversion units. More than 70% gasoline pool is composed of FCC gasoline, of which the olefin content is usually up to 30–60%. The olefins in gasoline may result in serious problems of engine deposits and air pollution for their highly active chemical properties.…”
