Cross-Cultural Validation of the Work Values Scale EVAT Using Multi-Group Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Multidimensional Scaling

Abstract: The Work Values Scale EVAT (based on its initials in Spanish: Escala de Valores hacia el Trabajo) was created in 2000 to measure values in the work context. The instrument operationalizes the four higher-order-values of the Schwartz Theory (1992) through sixteen items focused on work scenarios. The questionnaire has been used among large samples of Mexican and Spanish individuals reporting adequate psychometric properties. The instrument has recently been translated into Portuguese and Italian, and subsequentl… Show more

“…Unlike the MGCFA, the MDS has the advantage that the factorial structure of the instrument does not need to be stipulated in advance. The researcher can compute different settings, choose the confi guration of interest (for example, the confi guration that best represents the theoretical structure of the instrument), and assess whether the structure is suitable for different groups (Arciniega, González, Soares, Ciulli, & Giannini, 2009). Another key MDS feature is that no linear model is needed to derive the underlying data structure, which is similar to the IRT (Sireci, 2005).…”

“…Next steps for this work will include assessing the internal consistency and test-retest reliability of these tools in a population of HIV-infected adolescents who were not included in this qualitative study. Other techniques such as factor analysis and multidimensional scaling may also be employed to clarify the cross-cultural validity of tools [53] , [54] . If deemed to be valid and reliable, the tools will be used to longitudinally assess the relationships between these psychosocial measures and adherence to antiretroviral therapies in adolescents in Botswana.…”
