Crystal structure of bis(azido-κN)bis[2,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole-κ2N2,N3]nickel(II)

Abstract: Reaction of 2,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole and sodium azide with nickel(II) triflate yielded the mononuclear title complex, [Ni(N3)2(C12H8N4S)2]. The NiII ion is located on a centre of symmetry and is octahedrally coordinated by four N atoms of the two bidentate heterocyclic ligands in the equatorial plane. The axial positions are occupied by the N atoms of two almost linear azide ions [N—N—N = 178.8 (2)°]. The thiadiazole and pyridine rings of the heterocyclic ligand are almost coplanar, with a m… Show more

“…Indeed, the ligand (L) can coordinate to different metal ions in many modes (Bentiss et al, 2002(Bentiss et al, , 2011Ahmed et al, 2015;Laachir et al, 2013Laachir et al, , 2015a. However, we observed the formation of the title compound with the same ligand after the addition of perchloric acid, as a result of the proton donor-acceptor reaction between perchloric acid and 2,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole (L).…”

“…1) is isotypic with its nickel(II) analogue (Laachir et al, 2015) and similar to that of ISSN 2056-9890 the homologous compound, [Co(C 12 H 8 N 4 S) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ]Á2BF 4 , in which the water molecules are substituted by azide ions which at the same time neutralize the positive charge of Co 2+ (Bentiss et al, 2011b). The main difference between the two structures lies in the values of the dihedral angle between the two pyridine rings: this is 18.72 (6) in the hydrated molecule, whereas it is 3.03 (2) in the title molecule, (I).…”

“…The structure of the title compound is similar to that of the related complexes [Co( (Laachir et al, 2015a), in which the azide ion is substituted by the thiocyanate group. The CuN 4 S 2 octahedron is more distorted than the NiN 6 and CoN 6 octahedra.…”
