Cytokines and prevention of infectious diseases in poultry: A review

Abstract: Cytokines are soluble, low molecular weight polypeptides and glycopeptides produced by a broad range of cell types of haematopoietic and nonhaematopoietic origin that have suppressive or enhansive effects on cellular proliferation, differentiation, activation, and motility. Like hormones, cytokines mediate cellular responses through autocrine, paracrine, and endocrine activities. Both inflammatory responses and specific immune responses to invasive microbes, which were evolved to protect the host from pathogen… Show more

“…In this study, we further analyzed this correlation and focused on the functional properties of genes displaying the correlated expression profiles only in the earlier time points until 4 days pi. This study contrasts other studies that use Salmonella infected chicken to study (innate) immune responses or differences in susceptibilities [6-8]. …”

“…The interacting cellular and molecular pathways of inflammation and immunity were evolved to protect the host from pathogens (Kogut, 2000). Both inflammatory responses and specific immune responses to invasive microbes are controlled by a complex network of cytokines (Fresno et al, 1997).…”

“…Both inflammatory responses and specific immune responses to invasive microbes are controlled by a complex network of cytokines (Fresno et al, 1997). As regulators of the initiation and maintenance of host defenses, cytokines ultimately determine the type of response generated and the effector mechanisms generated to mediate resistance (Kogut, 2000). In this study APEC strains and their isogenic fimH mutants were used to stimulate the immune response of PBMCs.…”

“…Therefore the T cells are named the MHC-restricted lymphocytes (figure 2) (XIaO et al, 2017). Intracellular specialized T Cd8 cells are called the cytotoxic lymphocyte cells (CTL), and cytokines producing T Cd4 cells are called helper T cells (Th) (SHaRMa & TIZaRd, 1984;KOGuT, 2000;MeLIef, 2003;aRuN et al, 2011).…”
