Decomposition and nutrient release pattern of animal manures biodegraded by fly larvae in Acrisols

Abstract: This study aims to assess the decomposition of manure biodegraded by fly larvae and the nutrient mineralization rates to understand the efficiency of the biodegraded manures for further use as soil amendment. A litter bag experiment was carried out over 75 d in an Acrisol in Benin using poultry manure, pig manure, mixture of poultry and sheep manure, mixture of poultry and cow manure, and mixture of poultry and pig manure, biodegraded by Musca domestica larvae. Nutrients content in the manures during the diffe… Show more

“…The CART models proved that SOC level was the main parameter determining soybean yield in the farmers' field. The importance of SOC level on crop yield and soil fertility was largely reported [19,20,21]. However, in the two AEZ, farmers do not apply manure in their fields especially for soybean cultivation.…”

“…This could be explained by the transportation costs of the manure, availability on the manure and the use of crop residues to feed the animals. The consequence of such practice is the decrease of soil organic carbon level and in long-term induce adverse effect on soil productivity [19].…”

“…Le résidu d'élevage peut ensuite être utilisé comme un bio fertilisant de qualité pour améliorer la qualité des sols, augmenter le rendement des cultures et réduire l'utilisation d'engrais chimiques (16,20,21,22,69,71). Les teneurs en oligoéléments des résidus produits à partir des différents substrats de production d'asticots ont été comparés (15). Les substrats produits via la dégradation des asticots sont susceptibles d'être utilisés en agriculture (tableau 3).…”

“…The recycling of waste and the production of protein are two of many benefits in using insects for waste treatment. The use of insects also generates a residue that is rich in minerals, which can be valorized as a quality bio-fertilizer to improve soil quality, enhance crop yield, and reduce the use of chemical fertilizers [21][22][23][24][25]. Furthermore, this residue can be used to produce secondary industrial compounds (e.g., biofuel, lubricants, pharmaceuticals, dyes) [26].…”
