Design, analysis and implementation of a generalised topology for multilevel inverters with reduced circuit devices

Abstract: This study proposes a multilevel inverter with optimised structure from switching device number point of view. Configuration of the presented multilevel inverter is modular and extendable. Three different methods are introduced to determine the magnitude of DC voltage sources. Characteristics of inverter topology based on suggested methods are given and compared with each other. Also, the proposed multilevel inverter is compared with some similar topologies in terms of controlled switches, driver circuits, DC … Show more

“…The FPGA controller is used in model SIM 6.3 software to generate the switching pulses for the MOSFET switches based on APOD, POD and PD schemes (Siddique et al , 2019b; Majareh et al , 2019; Chandrasekaran et al , 2019). In this topology, LS-PWM can produce a higher quality output voltage waveform than the phase shift PWM strategy.…”

“…Finally, in section 3, according to the described process, a MATLAB code was introduced. This code can calculate the best values for DC sources, and its most important feature is that it can be used for any other CHB-based topology [18], [28]. A method for removing the DC component of the output current of transformerless inverters is proposed [19].…”

“…ey are primarily focused on reducing the number of switches, driver circuits, voltage balancing, and complexity requirements [6]. MLI topologies are designed using a diversity of features, including DC sources, capacitors, semiconductor switches, modularity, output levels, peak inverse voltage (PIV), and total standing voltage (TSV) [7].…”
